Welcome to Discovering Peace Counseling. My name is Delseta and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and the Founder/Owner of Discovering Peace Counseling. I have a lot of personal experiences with stress (good and bad stress), burnout (feeling overwhelmed and emotionally drained), and relationships (as a couple, in a marriage, as part of families and friendships). I’ve also learned a great deal about how to manage stress and burnout (going for a hike, crafting, the beach, and meditation), and maintain healthy  relationships with others (I’ve been married for many years). I’ve also experienced various losses and traumatic experiences. 

My journey that began with managing stress and burnout has led to my increased interest in learning how to improve overall quality of life and well-being. This is very much in alignment with my passion for mental health and wellness. This has also resulted in my passion to help others learn how to break free from the negative impacts of stress, burnout, relationship struggles, and trauma and experience healing, restoration, and a better quality of life. Of course this doesn’t mean one will never experience stress or experience an argument with their significant other (and that isn’t the goal). However, there are ways to manage and process all of these things to improve one’s quality of life and well-being.

My approach is collaborative and individualized to the individuals, couples, and families who are coming in for treatment. I am dedicated to providing a safe and supportive environment where we will come up with solutions that will help you deal with challenges you are facing and promote healing and growth. I use a variety of strategies to help you improve your well-being and quality of life. Depending upon where you are, we may explore your thoughts and behaviors and work on changing your thoughts to influence different outcomes and behaviors, or I may incorporate mindfulness techniques to help you obtain a state of alertness and relaxation, or you may learn how to increase your awareness of internal sensations and develop mastery of self-regulation to promote healing. No one strategy fits everyone. Therefore, we will talk more about what will best help you.

I believe in progress and not perfection. I believe one must take one step at a time and celebrate each step forward (whether big or small). I also believe that each individual has his or her own inner (and even outer) strengths to enhance his or her well-being and a better quality of life. We will tap into these strengths within our time together as well.

I am aware of the effects of oppression and racism within our BIPOC communities (myself included) and I strive to do what I can to help strengthen these communities that are impacted. I support racial equality and justice through helping others work toward healing and empowerment (whether racial injustice and trauma was experienced directly or indirectly).
